Frequently Asked Questions
How is pleuran different from other beta glucans?
Pleuran is a beta glucan unique to oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus). Unlike beta glucans from other sources, the insoluble structure of pleuran means that it is not absorbed, but rather passes through the digestive system intact, and is recognized by receptors on immune cells in the small intestine called Peyer’s patches.*
How is pleuran obtained from oyster mushrooms?
Every mushroom is hand-harvested, with the stems separated from the caps. The caps are sent to restaurants, so nothing is wasted. Meanwhile, the stems are kept cold to inhibit an enzyme called beta glucanase from breaking down and weakening the mushroom’s beneficial pleuran. Within 26 hours of harvest, the stems are washed, processed, and dehydrated (without the use of toxic solvents) to isolate and concentrate the beneficial pleuran.
Will ImunoPleuran Upper Respiratory Health supplements still work if you take them with food?*
ImunoPleuran Extra Strength should be taken without food, on an empty stomach. Pleuran supports your natural defenses by interacting with receptors on the surface of immune-activating Peyer’s patches in the small intestine. This works best when there is no digestion occurring at the same time.*
Will this upset my stomach?
It is not likely. While everyone responds differently to supplements, clinical studies–even in children–show that the pleuran in ImunoPleuran is incredibly well tolerated and highly rated by participants in those studies.
